What Is A Video Toy?
(RSSPad May 16, 2007)

Is a video toy the same as a video game? Yes, they’re closely related. But a toy is an object you view or just look at with amusement. A game requires participation. Adding video to either of these just enunciates how they’re displayed. A video toy is the object presented in television or computer media showing the item in motion. A video game, then, is the challenge presented in television or computer media showing a competition.

Who is the Father of Video Games
(RSSPad May 18, 2007)

In general, video games first surfaced as an industry in 1971. While there are various systems that could be classified as pre-video games (such as the jukebox, the pinball machine, tennis for two, tic-tac-toe, etc.), the industry got going in 1971 when two separate efforts emerged. We have, on one hand, some students at Stanford University who using a version of Spacewar developed a computer system they called “Galaxy Game.” About the same time frame, an Ampex Corporation employee, named Nolan Bushnell, produced approximately 1,500 of his “Computer Space” units. Still, during this same time period, a Sanders Associates employee, named Ralph Baer, produced the “Magnavox Odyssey” system. So, who should be considered the father of video games? Needless to say, there is a dispute on this matter. You decide!

Robot Toys In Action
RSSPad May 21, 2007)

Video Toy Guy says a robot is an artificial electro-mechanical system capable of performing intelligent movements. So, what if we use software to create this robotic system? Then, you would have a video robot. Using this concept to produce such system for kids 14 years and under, you create a robot toy. It is also a video toy. Hence, the term video toys are employed by The Video Guy.

What With Video Toy Story
(RSSPad May 26, 2007)

Video Toy Guy says “imagine a film consisting entirely of toy animated actors.” That is what video toy story is about. The toys take on humanistic characteristics and play roles just as human kids would play. It makes for interesting theater.

I Am Video Guy
(RSSPad June 5, 2007)

Video Toy Guy here. I am the Video Guy. Who am I? My name is William C. Harrison. You can call me the “Video Guy.” What makes the Video Guy tick? Why is he the Video Guy? Well, once upon a time, this fellow, now called the Video Guy, developed a yearning for the study and development of the video toy industry. He coined his Web Site the “Video Toy Guy.” But when it came time to identify himself, he simply said I’m the “Video Guy.” Every since then, he has been known as the “Video Guy.”

The Image Was Lifelike
(RSSPad June 6, 2007)

The video toy industry appears to be headed toward more lifelike interactive video toy images. More emphasis is being placed on lifelike intelligence. In toy story, the images were, of course, lifelike. Stress is on making such images appear more and more like human beings. The animations being developed by the various computer producers seems bent on producing humanoid type figures.

Is It Virtual Reality or Is It Video Toy
(RSSPad June 12, 2007)

Virtual reality is a computer simulated three dimensional program designed to model body and facial surfaces so that they mimic the motions of a human being. Now, isn’t that what a video toy does? Take for instance “Toy Story,” do not the characters in that movie mimic the motions of actual human beings. The difference is that they are not human beings but computer generated simulations that I refer to as virtual reality.

Video Toy, Where Art Thou?
(RSSPad 13, 2007)

Video toy is intrinsically linked to video game. They are not the same, however. A video game has a goal or challenge to it. If it has no goal, then, it is a video toy that can be played with or just watched. Then, where is the video toy headed? If “Toy Story” is an indication, it appears to have live. Nevertheless, video toys have been overcome by the desire to have challenges and more challenges to our simulations. Thus, video games appear to have the upper hand on video toys and, therefore, the future belongs to video games.
Is There A Future In Video Toys
(RSSPad June 23, 2007)

Video Toy Guy here. Too often when we speak of the future of video toys, we think of the future of video games. They are entirely different. Advances in video game technology do not necessarily mean advances in video toy technology. While the focus on video game technology is on making bolder and wilder competition or matches among the “beast world,” the video toy focus is on improving the depiction of toy images in action. From this standpoint, video toys, in its rudimentary presentation, appeal to the younger kids more so than video games, although one must admit, at the video toy story level, there is a greater appreciation of the more mature audience.
